Access rules and field-level rights
Show entries only to some people by a field’s value, and let a role edit only certain fields.
Both live on the Access Rules tab of a collection.
Who can edit which fields
A grid of roles against fields. Tick a field for a role, and people in that role may change that field even though their role does not include the permission to edit entries. Roles that can already edit entries show “can already edit every field”. A tester can then flip the status of an instrument without being able to rename it or touch its inventory number.
- A granted field can be changed on the entry page, on a card, in “editable on the page” blocks, and through the API.
- The title, the cover and the other fields stay protected.
Access rules
A rule hides entries from some people by the value of a field. Press + Add rule, name it, and choose who it applies to (a workspace role, a specific user, or all members), the field, an operator (equals, does not equal, at most, at least, less than, greater than, contains, one of a list) and the expected value. An entry must satisfy every rule that applies to a person to be shown to them, in lists, in search or on its page; an entry with no value in that field does not pass. People who may edit collections or manage the workspace are not affected by rules.
